they came and showed me
a different way of living,
of loving.
forced me to speak truths
and cry tears
i didn't know
i needed to.
they held my hand
and we faced our monsters together,
made it through the darkness together,
weathered the storms together.
they prepared me for an open,
honest,
vulnerable love
by desiring to love me that way.
and when i could not return the favor,
opting to love theirselves instead.
and that,
too,
is a lesson for me.
